Mactan-Cebu airport SIM card or eSIM (CEB): land online

Mactan-Cebu International Airport stands on Mactan Island in Lapu-Lapu, the second largest airport in the country, with more than 11 million passengers in 2024. The airport's own transport guide sets out the MyBus to SM City Cebu and the modern jeepney route, and Grab picks up at the arrival bays. Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corporation has run the terminal since January 2025, and with the eSIM installed at home, Cebu City is a bus ride away when the wheels touch.

The short answer

A Philippines eSIM is installed at home before you fly and switched on when you land, with roaming on. At Mactan-Cebu (CEB) the airport's own guide lists the MyBus to SM City Cebu, and Grab picks up at the arrival bays. A SIM bought on arrival is registered to the buyer under the SIM Registration Act.

Where the signal holds

  • MyBus

SM City Cebu to the airport

The airport's transport guide sets out the MyBus route, SM City Cebu to Parkmall to Mactan-Cebu International Airport and back, with fares from 30 to 50 pesos and service from 6:00 to 21:00 towards the airport and 7:00 to 22:00 back.

  • Modern jeepneys

    A 24-hour route

Modern jeepneys run from the Lapu-Lapu City public market to Terminal 2 and Terminal 1, the airport's guide says, with fares of about 15 to 20 pesos and service around the clock.

  • Data roaming on

    Your eSIM

The eSIM runs on a Philippine network and shows that network's name in your phone's settings. Turn data roaming on for the eSIM line.

Practical notes

  1. Getting to Cebu CityThe airport's transport guide sets out the MyBus route, from SM City Cebu through Parkmall to the airport and back, with fares of about 30 to 50 pesos depending on the stop and service from 6:00 to 21:00 towards the airport and 7:00 to 22:00 back. Grab's page for the airport puts Cebu City about 15 km away, a trip of 35 to 50 minutes, and names arrival bays A to D and the north and south wing drop-offs among its pickup points.
  2. The terminalsThe airport works two terminals: Terminal 1 for domestic flights and Terminal 2 for international ones, as the airport's own guide describes them in its transport routes. The private partner in the government's PPP, Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corporation, has been the terminal operator since 16 January 2025, and the airport handled more than 11 million passengers in 2024. Check with your airline which terminal your flight uses.
  3. Getting onlineThe eSIM is installed at home before the flight and switched on when you land, so nothing waits at a counter. A SIM card bought on arrival is registered to the buyer: the SIM Registration Act (Republic Act 11934) requires all new subscribers to register their SIM card before activation, as DITO's registration page sets out. Each of the three networks publishes its own coverage, so check Globe's, Smart's or DITO's own pages for Cebu and Mactan before the trip.
  4. PayingThe currency is the Philippine peso (PHP). The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the country's central bank, says it has the exclusive power and authority to issue the coins and notes for circulation in the Philippines, and its site publishes a daily reference exchange rate bulletin. Check that bulletin before changing money at a bank or money changer in town.

Arrival, step by step (Mactan-Cebu airport)

Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi before you fly, and keep the line switched off. After landing, turn off airplane mode, switch the eSIM line on, choose it for mobile data and turn on data roaming for that line only. Nothing needs collecting at a counter: the line is already in the phone, and the MyBus stop and the pickup bays sit outside the terminal. If it does not connect, restart the phone once, then work through the checks in the help pages one by one.
